Partying in pajamas

To watch and celebrate the start up of the LHC earlier this week, Fermilab staff, scientists, media and local physics enthusiasts gathered at the laboratory Wednesday morning for a Pajama Party, an aptly named middle-of-the-night event. While not everyone took the pajama part seriously, there were about 100 people who showed up in their sleepwear.
Fermilab staff captured some photos of pj party attendees in their slumber gear–everything from animal print to the full-footy pajama. Some highlights are below.

Fermilab Deputy Director Young-Kee Kim poses in her red footy pajamas with scientists Joel Butler, Joe Lykken (in silk robe) and Lothar Bauerdick (in full robe and pajamas at right).

Fermilab scientist William Wester takes a walk on the wild side in his tiger-print robe. Wester poses with State Representative and DZero collaborator Mike Fortner.

A group of pajama-clad Fermilab employees and physics enthusiasts poses for a group photo Wednesday, during the pajama party.

Paddy Fox, a Fermilab theorist, wore a bathrobe and a towel to the Pajama Party. The towel is a reference to Douglas Adam's novel "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," where Douglas calls a towel the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. A small correction: Mike Fortner is a D-Zero collaborator, not a CDF collaborator.

Thanks, Bill. We have made that correction.

Congratulations to all the GEMS working in CERN and FERMILAB. I am a student of 12 grade in INDIA and I was overwhelmed when I watched this whole programme on tv and also the videos on net. Before also I had mailed to you asking about certain things but I did not get any response.I want to persue my career in this research field and for that I wanted some admission details or qualification to join CERN. I am very much interested in it and I hope to get the response as early as possible.I wish you luck for the day when the beam is actually going to collide….hope to get positive results.
Yours Sincerely
