LHC switch on attracts stars, TV shows

OK. The Olympics is over so now you need another media marathon to enjoy.

BBC Radio has just the thing for you: three days of coverage to celebrate the September 10 switch on of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, a particle accelerator seven times more energetic than any existing machine.

You can find the schedule here: BBC Radio 4's Big Bang Day.

Highlights include physicist Brian Cox interviewing celebrity particle physics fans Alan Alda, Ben Miller, Eddie Izzard, Dara O'Briain, and John Barrowman; a special episode of Torchwood , the popular spin-off from the Dr. Who series; and Andrew Marr reporting live from the CERN control room.
