  1. I was just wondering, everyone is saying this while cause the end of the world, by like sucking it up or something i was wondering if this is true, then why is CERN willing to risk the lives of everyone?

  2. Hi Natasha,

Only a few people are saying that, just like they have said before the start of other colliders in the past. Numerous safety studies over the years have found that there is no risk in starting up the LHC. You can read more about it here: http://www.symmetrymagazine.org/breaking/2008/08/20/the-safety-of-switching-on-the-large-hadron-collider/

  3. please not perform this experiment if this is aginst the rules of our nature.i read in newspaper that black holes will be formed there after this exp. what is the gaurantee that these black holes will be destroyed.one should not perform these exp putting life on stake.
what we will gain when there isn’t any life.
ok,let us think that the black holes will destroy itself, but there must be another harmful effects.
i am just of 16 & worried about this exp.

  4. Anup Acharya Says:

It must go on. Best wishes.

  5. Arihant: Don’t believe everything you read in the newspapers! Take at look at some of other posts on this blog about LHC safety and you’ll see that all of the analyses by all particle physicists show there is no risk involved in starting the LHC.

Only a few people are claiming there is a risk, but those people don’t seem to have studied the physics of the experiment. They also predicted disaster before previous colliders started using the same misguided arguments. As we know, no disaster occurred at those colliders.

  6. i was just wondering wat is the risk that we wil die
    like in percent
because i am really worrying about it

  7. why so worried, if a black hole is created and kills everyone and destroyes the planet, then there is nothing to worry about as you would be dead. and sience experiments always have risks, if people were not willing to take risks to advance our technology we would still all be cave men.

  8. Oh, hells yeah!

Yay for potentially Earth-ending scientific experiments that attempt to produce a Higgs boson (amongst other things) via colliding two beams of 7 TeV protons!

10 September 2008 will be a glorious day, one way or another! :D
